AB-210 Replaces MB-280: Microsoft’s New Dynamics 365 Sales AI Certification Explained

July 11,2026

Microsoft is introducing Exam AB-210: Accelerating Sales Pipelines with AI in Dynamics 365 as the new certification exam for professionals who design and implement AI-enhanced sales solutions. Passing AB-210 earns the Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Sales AI Consultant Associate certification.

The new exam succeeds MB-280 as Microsoft shifts its Dynamics 365 Sales certification path toward Copilot, predictive intelligence, automation, and AI agents. Microsoft will retire MB-280: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Experience Analyst and its associated certification on July 31, 2026. After the retirement date, candidates will no longer be able to take MB-280 or earn that credential.

AB-210 Replaces MB-280: Microsoft’s New Dynamics 365 Sales AI Certification Explained

AB-210 Focuses on AI-Powered Sales Transformation

AB-210 is not simply MB-280 with a different exam code. It represents a substantial change in the skills Microsoft expects Dynamics 365 Sales consultants to possess.

Candidates must understand how to combine Dynamics 365 Sales, Copilot, predictive insights, conversational intelligence, guided automation, and AI agents to support sellers throughout the lead-to-cash process. The role involves translating business requirements into practical sales workflows that improve productivity, forecasting, lead qualification, opportunity management, and decision-making.

The certification is designed primarily for:

● Dynamics 365 Sales functional consultants

● Microsoft Power Platform consultants

● CRM business analysts

● Sales technology specialists

● Consultants implementing Copilot and AI agents

● Professionals responsible for improving sales processes with automation

Important AB-210 Exam Information

Microsoft currently lists AB-210 as a beta exam. Candidates receive 120 minutes to complete the proctored assessment, and a score of 700 is required to pass. The exam is currently offered in English. Because it is in beta, results may not be delivered immediately, and Microsoft has not yet released an official Practice Assessment.

Five Main AB-210 Exam Domains

The official AB-210 study guide divides the exam into five areas:

Skills measured Weight
Configure Dynamics 365 Sales core features for AI 15–20%
Optimize AI-driven sales 20–25%
Qualify and prioritize leads by using AI 15–20%
Develop deals by using intelligent opportunity research 25–30%
Extend and enhance Sales 10–15%

The largest domain is developing deals through intelligent opportunity research, so candidates should give significant attention to AI-supported opportunity management and specialized sales agents.

How AB-210 Differs from MB-280

MB-280 covers a broader customer experience role. Its syllabus includes Dynamics 365 Sales, Dataverse customization, model-driven applications, Power Platform, and Dynamics 365 Customer Insights.

AB-210 has a narrower but deeper focus on AI-powered sales. It reduces the emphasis on general Dataverse customization and Customer Insights while expanding coverage of Copilot, intelligent lead qualification, opportunity research, and autonomous sales agents.

MB-280 AB-210
Broad customer experience focus Dedicated AI-powered sales focus
Major emphasis on Dataverse customization Dataverse supports AI sales workflows
Includes Customer Insights No separate Customer Insights domain
Covers standard CRM implementation Covers Copilot and agent-enabled selling
Customer Experience Analyst role Sales AI Consultant role

Candidates who prepared for MB-280 will retain useful knowledge of Dynamics 365 Sales, Power Automate, security, model-driven apps, leads, opportunities, and forecasting. However, they will need additional study in Copilot, agent deployment, intelligent research, agent monitoring, and AI-first sales design.

How Candidates Should Prepare for AB-210

A practical study plan should begin with the official AB-210 skills outline. Candidates can then organize their preparation around three priorities.

- First, strengthen core Dynamics 365 Sales knowledge. Practice configuring sales processes, security, product catalogs, opportunities, pipelines, forecasts, collaboration tools, and seller experiences.

- Second, build hands-on experience with AI features. Configure Copilot, predictive scoring, conversational intelligence, relationship intelligence, and the Sales accelerator in a test environment.

- Third, study every sales agent as an end-to-end solution. Understand its business use case, prerequisites, configuration, operating modes, actions, monitoring, security, and expected results.

Should You Take AB-210 or Complete MB-280?

Candidates who are already close to taking MB-280 may still choose to complete it before July 31, 2026, particularly when the current certification is required by an employer or project.

Those beginning a new certification plan should generally concentrate on AB-210. It aligns more closely with Microsoft’s current direction for Dynamics 365 Sales and validates skills involving Copilot, AI agents, predictive intelligence, and intelligent pipeline management.

AB-210 represents more than an exam replacement. It reflects the changing role of Dynamics 365 consultants—from configuring traditional CRM systems to designing secure, measurable, and AI-enhanced seller experiences.

Conclusion

AB-210 marks an important change in Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 certification strategy. While MB-280 focuses on broad customer experience configuration, AB-210 is designed for professionals who want to build AI-enhanced sales solutions using Dynamics 365 Sales, Copilot, predictive insights, automation, and specialized sales agents. Candidates who are already close to completing MB-280 may still take it before its retirement on July 31, 2026, but those beginning a new study plan should consider AB-210 as the more future-focused option. Earning the Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Sales AI Consultant Associate certification can demonstrate that you are prepared to support modern sales teams with intelligent, secure, and scalable AI-powered solutions.
